Public bug reported:
The version of gaim-encryption currently in edgy (2.38-3) is for gaim 1.5 and
doesn't work with gaim 2.0beta3 (included in edgy). gaim-encryption 3.0beta5
works with gaim 2.0beta3 and there is a package for it in Debian experimental.
The reason why it is in experimental is that Debian doesn't have gaim 2.0beta3
yet in unstable (only in experimental).
The package from experimental builds without a change on current edgy.
