I have the same problem with Mandriva one 2007 and Realplayer, Video first looks fine in VLC, then after installing realplayer this Program sets the default XV_CONTRAST in xvattr to 127 with is roughly 50 %. I guess this would be rather normal for most videocard, apparently this card (i810) can't handle this thus the default value is 64. Why can a user program like Realplayer change the default system values of the videocard ? It took me some time to solve this problem, had to restart first all the time to fix this now use manually xvattr
