I am still having this problem. A quick note, now it still fails but if I try again I get this message:
Error org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume.Crypto.SetupError /dev/sdc is already setup? I get the same error (obviously different locations though, /dev/sdb etc...) with three different drives.
