There has been a lot of discussion about this on the UK LoCo list. I am
told that Windows 7 uses a part of the boot sector on every re-boot and
that this breaks dual boot on grub2. The discussion reported that grub1
and lilo are unaffected. The reason for my concern is that I am
regularly supporting folk on a forum on the pcspecialist site.
pcspecialist is a supplier of barebones built-to-spec computers. There
has been a lot of discussion there with folk who want to try Ubuntu, but
only if we can give them dual-boot alongside Windows 7. I suspect that
this problem may be being reported here as several different bugs, but
it does seem to be causing an urgent problem. I am not a Windows user
so can't report from firsthand experience.
