Howdy,
 Perhaps I should describe my partition layout.  I have two 37 GB drives. The 
first drive has 4 primary partitions[1) .5 GB ext2 with /boot, 2) 9 GB JFS with 
/usr, 3) .5GB encrypted swap, 4) remainder to LVM] The second drive has 2 
primary partitions[1) .5gb encrypted swap, 2) remainder to LVM]  The LVM is put 
into 1 volume group and then into 1 logical volume, which is a btrfs /(root) 
filesystem.

 I started the procedure at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1599293 to try to recover, but
don't see what I expect.  At the grub rescue, I typed  ls
"(hd0,msdos1)/" and I see what look like kernel files and there is no
grub directory..  I have not figured out how to do a directory of my /
filesystem there, since it is in a LVM.
