dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg continues to not work properly for configurations
I have. I bought a new Dell lcd to replace the fried crt one mentioned above.
It never detected it correctly, infact I don't think it changed anything
relavent in the xorg.conf, and I was never able to use the lcd after running
the reconfigure process unless I modified xorg.conf myself. I followed both

<http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=83973>. I used my lcd's exact config
as reference, and still wasn't quite able to get it to work correctly. The
screen would be fuzzy on the edges and have random blocks of color show up.
I never had an issue with this in ubuntu 5.10 or with knoppix on this
box. I found if I ran the knoppix 5.01 dvd, my screen was flawless. I
just copied pertinent info in the xorg.conf from knoppix and put it into
my ubuntu xorg.conf. Everything works good now.
