Just wanted to add that this is still a problem in Lucid 10.04. The workaround of moving the shared library bundled with Thunderbird (/usr/lib/thunderbird-3.1.7/libldap60.so) and linking the system wide libldap (/usr/lib/libldap-2.4.so.2) into its place fixed the problem. Though I haven't done much testing beyond that yet.
