Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. For network-manager to manage your wireless interface you need to only have "auto wlan0" and "iface wlan0 inet dhcp" in your '/etc/network/interfaces' file. network-manager will keep track of ESSIDs and keys in gnome-keyring-manager. Please retry with the settings I have recommended and report back. Thanks in advance.
