I got the exact same problem. I have an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M, and got this same problem, when I tried to update to the NVIDIA 3D Acceleration Driver update (from NVIDIA). I'd also got the black screen (everytime I tried), and had to reboot in Recovery Mode, and edit the 'xorg.conf' file, back to the 'nv' driver.
And then it works fine again, but without the 3D Acceleration "software", in the NVIDIA driver. I hope to see an update, on this bug very soon.
