  Binary package hint: gdebi

- On an Ubuntu Maverick system where kubuntu-desktop is also installed (as
- well as ubuntu-desktop), I logged in with a KDE session and installed
- some packages with gdebi-kde 0.6.3ubuntu1. Specifically, I installed
- libartsc0 1.5.10-0ubuntu1~hardy1, libarts1c2a 1.5.10-0ubuntu1~hardy1
- (and libqt3-mt 3:3.3.8-b-6ubuntu2 as a dependency--this required a
- restart, which I performed before continuing), artsbuilder
- 4:3.5.10-0ubuntu1~hardy1 (and kdelibs-data

I understand that Hardy packages cannot generally be expected to work on
a Maverick system, but this bug report reports a crash in gdebi, not in
any of the packages I installed. All the installations using gdebi
worked fine, but then, a couple of reboots later in an Ubuntu Desktop
Edition session, Apport offered to report this bug. I presume that, in
one way or another, gdebi was sufficient fault-tolerant to succeed in
spite of what went wrong. Since I did not personally observe any
failures, I can't give detailed information about the impact of this
crash, though I would be pleased to try reproducing it under other
conditions if that would be useful.
