I have to correct my last comment. The 2nd computer has also an encrypted home partition and shows the problem with the view/zoom dialog but not the artefacts in the menu. So the 2 problems I described in my initial report don't seem to be connected to each other. I was also able to reproduce the view/zoom dialog problem on a 3rd system (again with encrypted home partition).
