I've confirmed a couple of things. First, by using a different USB
Bluetooth adapter, the Azio BTD211, I am able to connect and maintain my
connection. The lsusb output for this device is:

Bus 003 Device 005: ID 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth
Dongle (HCI mode)

So, it appears that the bluez 4.69 that ships with Maverick is just
having issues with adapters using the Broadcom Corp. hardware. My MSI
internal adapter and now this Azio/Cambridge Silicon Radio adapter have
no issues.

The other thing that I tested, at sherbey's suggestion, is that
installing the latest bluez package (4.84) fixes this problem with the
Broadcom Bluetooth adapters.
