Ok, no aufs kernel tracebacks (ie bug #621195) and the guests are flaky. What is triggering it is a maverick dist-upgrade in one guest, and an 'apt-get install ubuntu-desktop' in another maverick guest, that only has ubuntu-minimal installed. I will try disabling ksm.
