It might be that Afrikaans is not supported in the installer and can
only be chosen after the installation by using System > Administration >
Language Support

I've assigned the bug to the Afrikaans translation team to comment on
it, but it might be that the installer (debian-installer) needs to be
translated first, as I see that upstream does not have an Afrikaans
translation:
