I am confirming this problem. I tried using ALSA:default as the audio output. Here's the status of the relevant Alsa volume levels:

EMU10k1 (rev 0a) Tuner I use is Hauppauge WinTV Plus (software encoder). I switched from Gentoo where this problem did not exits. All old recordings play fine and at a much lower volume level. New recordings play with a buzzing sound (as if there was high pitched "noise" in the signal) and cracking sounds when people speak, etc (as if it were poorly digitized). I checked various settings within mythtv: sound is recorded as MP3 at 9 quality at 48000 sample rate at 90%. I'll try to upgrade to fiesty and see what happens... I'll post my experiences here.
