I also experience constant freezes with maverick when going into suspend. The suspend seems to go well, network, hard drive etc... is turned off, but the screen remains on in text mode. Then quickly the fan speeds up and the laptop heats up badly. Going to suspend freezes the laptop about 9 times out of 10. I am now running the mainline kernel 2.6.35-02063509-generic (x86_64) which fixes that particular problem.
