This is weird.

The package libgstreamer0.10-0-dbgsym wasn't available either, so I
built it myself. The backtrace (attached here) told me the problem was
in /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstplaybin.so which belongs to package
gstreamer0.10-plugins-base. So I decided to build them too. But now I
can't reproduce the same bug. The visualization worked fine (even if
takes hell of a time to start and that it's quite ugly ;)). How could my
gstreamer-plugins be corrupted? Were them not updated?

I installed the official repository packages again. It works fine.

My only explanation is that I already have another gstreamer-plugins-
base package with the same version. How is it possible? I had external
repositories but that could be quite a problem if others are in the same
situation. Maybe increasing the current version number could solve the
problem? I don't have a backup of my previous package by the way (to
know where it came from). This PC was upgraded from breezy --> dapper
--> edgy --> feisty and I think I gave a try to EasyUbuntu and Automatix
at some point, but my codecs were definitely installed using the way the
wiki recommended at the time.

So all-in-all, it could have been solved with apt-get install
--reinstall gstreamer-plugins-base (I think). Which I wouldn't have
thought of considering I just had upgraded my whole system.

Sorry for the wasted time! (or maybe not, if someone has the same
problem) and thanks you for your support.
