I started by fixing Windows. Seems it was using a buggy driver. Now it has proper speeds (around 3MBytes/s). So there is now a base for comparison.
I will test reverting the 1st and then 2nd commit again, taking into account that "speed decrease isn't always instant" - I just experienced it. Launched Kubuntu 10.10 and whoa, it's OK, I went out and after coming back - what the... (speed around 3 Mbit/s not MBytes/s) My notebook isn't a speed daemon - recompilation takes a lot of time.
