Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libjpeg8

There seems to be an error in maverick repositories. The package
libjpeg8-dev does not provide its virtual package libjpeg-dev. The other
version, marked obsolete, does provide this dependency, but is in
conflict with this newer package. Because of this it is impossible to
install anything that depends on libjpeg-dev if libjpeg8-dev is
installed.

The library itself, package libjpeg8, is missing a "provides" dependency
too (to libjpeg), but that does not matter much as it can be installed
along with its older version.
