If you remove any software that is dangerous to your data, you'd remove a lot more software from the repositories. Anyway, John Carr has been fixing some stuff (http://blogs.gnome.org/conduit/) but I believe nothing is released yet. As far as I know, that is the only active development right now. And unfortunately it is true that Conduit contains many bugs.
