I have been trying to isolate this bug on my MSI K9N2GM-FIH for months and as most people know that have similar problems, there are at least 3 and maybe more different types of freezing/lockups being reported.
This bug report symptoms by Glen Ramsay is EXACTLY the same as mine, effecting both 10.04 and 10.10 installs on my system. For my 10.04 install, using the 2.6.31-11rt kernel completely stops the mouse freezing. Also adding acpi=force irqpoll to the current generic kernel also stops the freezing. On my 10.10 install since there is no low latency kernel available, I tried acpi=force irqpoll on 2.6.35-23 and that greatly reduces the occurrences of the freeze, but they still occur maybe once every 24-36 hours. Since my freezes seem to happen more often while playing MP3's on Totem and or while coping files on external USB devices, I added this pulseaudio ppa "http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa/ubuntu". With the updates installed, I just had my first freeze after 4D 22H Uptime and that was while I was fooling around with ccsm in a foolhardy manner, so that freeze might be unrelated. I really believe THIS version of the freeze has something to do with the USB bus related to the Nvidia 8200 chipset. To any users wanting to add to this bug report, PLEASE read Glen Ramsay's original symptoms carefully and if your freeze problem does not fit exactly, check this thread for your symptoms: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1478787 The reason that post has 155+ pages is because people jump in with similar problems that have other causes and the whole thing turns into a huge mess. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/627862 Title: USB Mouse freezes randomly but consistently -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
