By the way, I have been able to work around this: 1. Backup Evolution settings. 2. Export personal contacts to a .vcf file 3. Erase all personal contacts 4. Backup Evolution to a different file (i.e. "nocontacts.tar...") 5. Import the empty file 6. Import the .vcf file to the personal address book.
Note that steps 4 and 5 seem redundant, but through all the iterations, it seems I had to do it in order for it to work.
