As far as I understand, this is related to the rest of the kernel being compiled with the Alsa OSS sound options. I am actually fine with this decision of removing OSS. OSS was deprecated for ages. Hello, Sorry I don't know how to do for stock alsa. But as far as I understand here your problem is maybe just related because oss is removed .... The 10.10 kernel is NOW COMPILED WHITHOUT OSS. And this is THE PROBLEM A LOT OF OTHER USERS HAVE.. For Your problem just google around and i'm shure you'll find it somewhere.
