I am affected by this bug after trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 from LiveCD on a 4 GB USB stick in an Asus EeePC 901.
I also tried to format the stick with ext3 (using palimpsest to circumvent the gparted bug mentioned in the previous comment). But this did not help.
