Hi Jeremy,
there is 2 parts
1) bad VESA :
I cannot test it with dev release because it doesn't occur in VBox. My guess is
this bug is bound to
 - how package upgrade scripts are detecting screen&gfx card capacities
 - how package upgrade scripts are writing the vga option in grub1 menu.lst
So last time bug occurred was when I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04.
As 10.04 is a LTS, I guess it should be fixed against this version only. Newer
Ubuntu version should be satisfied to get grub2 as a fix.
2) ugly logo and unworkable fb console
I can test the second part of the bug, but it seems to be another one : #551013
(plymouth/KMS/proprietary drivers bug)
