Unable to boot system and I don't know enough to be able to recover the system from the live CD; I have managed to recover my data, perform a clean install (32bit as I can't locate my 64bit CD) and restore data plus settings. Not sure that I want to pursue a fix to this problem as I do not wish to risk further problems now that I have restored the system.
