The machine is indeed running the latest BIOS.

The BIOS should not, of course, be an issue since in recovering from
hibernate ALL hardware needs to have its state restored by the OS itself
-- I don't even think any AML code is involved. The ACPI S4 support
doesn't have anything to do with restoring the hardware state (this is
not a machine where S4BIOS support is used for hibernate/restore.)

Also, let me note that I do not recall having this problem under Edgy --
that leads me to believe something was broken between the two kernels.
