Yep. update-grub script was changed. At least they were considerate
enough to leave a backup, which I restored.

Afterwards, using the edgy liveCD and learning how to mount my rootdir,
I found out that the 2.6.20 image was in fact installed. I reinstalled
grub from the edgy liveCD, and edited menu.lst to add
2.6.20-12-generic... and voilá, ubuntu again! Did a few apt-get dist-
upgrade and it even updated to 2.6.20-13-generic successfully... it
didn't modify grub.lst though, but I don't know if it had to.

Anyway, I blame the faulty update-grub script, so this bug might as well
be a duplicate of 94718, but that's not for me to decide.
