$ ubuntu-bug -p linux
Absolute beginner. Hardware listed at end of this.
I am on temporary ubuntu 9 from dvd. was in ubuntu 10 when crash occurred
(kernel panic) Installed by my son and hard drives set up in a raid array for
back-up of photo files.

Here's the scoop. Yesterday, I was trying to get to know ubuntu better.
I was clicking on different features. I saw the updates bit, checked if
some new ones were offered, saw there were, used my admin password and
downloaded the updates. They were something about video features or
something-could they have been viruses?. Things seemed ok. Then I went
into Ubuntu One. They offered to have me register to have an account.
As I was filling in my email address, I wrote "gk" in the window, and
seemed to lose control of the keyboard. Nothing would type. I clicked
and tried again. Nothing. Kind of freezed out. So I restarted and
got:

[1.1568201 Kernel panic-not syncing:VFS:Unable to mount root fs on unknown
block (0,0)
[1.156867]Pid: 1,comm: swapper Not tainted 2.635-22-generic #35 ubuntu
[1.156910] Call trace:
[1.156955] [cffffffff 8158645f>]panic 0x90/0/0x111 (or close to that)

and about 7 or 8 more lines like that down to

kernel_thread_helper ( and more numbers like the end of the line where
I commented "(or close to that) just above

And it stops.

I tried the switching off and unplugging computer routine. It came up
the same Kernel panic etc and same lines of script (wrong word?)

Am on an Asus P7P55D-E PRO motherboard, graphics card is EVGA version
10-450-01-1 (copied from install dvd)

I hope this helps you, others, and me. Not sure if this is a security
issue, but checked below in case.

Thanks, Graham Stokes
