Same issue on a Dell OptiPlex 755 under 2.6.3[56]* I installed 2.6.37-rc2 from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.37-rc2-maverick/ Seems slightly better with kworker but still noticeable and annoying.
