Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

When playing back sound, crackling sounds can be heard in the left
channel. This occurs when the intensity of the sound in the left channel
is high.

Playback has been tested using a variety of sources, including video
playback with VLC, music playback with Spotify (native Linux preview
client) and wave sound playback with aplay. It was not noticed before
upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10 or when using Windows 7 on the same
computer.

Sound is generated by an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 sound card, sent
through a Behringer Xenyx 802 mixer and then played back through both
stereo speakers and headphones.
