Same problem here, it seems. I'm working with a Dell XPS M1330,

2010 i686 GNU/Linux

It happens with network manager and with wicd. I tried switching to see
if the other would work better, but, same issue. It only seems to have
an effect on WPA/WPA2 encryption. And the only way to get it to connect
to the router is by rebooting the computer, sometimes several times
before it'll connect.
