I can confirm this bug on 10.10 with an nvidia GeForce GTS 250 driver 260.19.06
It also appears in a fairly recent multithreaded version from git://repo.or.cz/mplayer-build.git built with (commit 8a58f701c08d8fbaf8262): ./enable-mt ./init --shallow make it has more or less recent versions of libass.a libavcodec.a libavdevice.a libavformat.a libpostproc.a libass.la libavcore.a libavfilter.a libavutil.a libswscale.a statically linked in. attached the ldd of the resulting mplayer.
