to my .xprofile, and using kernel image 2.6.36-020636rc8-generic. With standard kernel 2.6.35 the monitor is recognised as DP1, e not with the strange (null)1, but trying to do the same trick just freezes the monitor and is not sufficient to restart X, I need to reboot the machine.
