I stumbled on this to get my sound back, maybe it'll help someone here: I added this to my /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base: options snd_intel8x0 model=auto
I rebooted, but still no sound. However, my snd_intel8x0 module did not load, possibly due to this new config. The good news is after I did a 'modprobe snd_intel8x0', I got sound working.
