I had a similar problem, I'm using autofs to mount a nfs share as my home directory at boot. I also had to restart autofs manualy every boot. I disabled NetworkManager like this 'chmod -x /usr/sbin/NetworkManager*' and now it works without having to restart. Though my problem seemed to be that my automount map is stored in a ldap database. =P
