Hi there, I have the same "bug" - Ubuntu 10.10 shows me the message during the start sequence : failed to get i915 symbols, graphics turbo disabled.
Another problem is, that I can't use desktop effects although I have installed the Ati driver and compiz. When I remove the driver the message disappears. But one thing is always there: The fan of the graphic card is running at 100 % all the time! and the CPU Usage of the 4 Cores is sometimes at 100 % , you can see it in the attachment.
