I can confirm this!

syslog says
Apr  4 15:10:14 localhost authdaemond: PAM unable to 
dlopen(/lib/security/pam_mysql.so)
Apr  4 15:10:14 localhost authdaemond: PAM [dlerror: 
/lib/security/pam_mysql.so: undefined symbol: pam_get_item]
Apr  4 15:10:14 localhost authdaemond: PAM adding faulty module: 
/lib/security/pam_mysql.so

Your workaround with export LD_PRELOAD worked for me at this moment.

My system is actually a Debian etch.
I could find anything related to this only here.
Maybe I should post this on debian?
