Don - given that this bug has not had an effective update since November 2008, and given that your symptoms are different, you almost certainly have a different bug. Therefore you should report a new bug.
However first please test with Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat". If you don't want to install it you can test using the Live CD. I can print the file attached to comment #11 without problems with Ubuntu 10.10 on my Canon i965 (using the BJC 8200 Foomatic driver).
