Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity
OS Version: Ubuntu 10.10 Package version: Ubiquity 2.4.8 Scenario: The user types an invalid username into the username field whilst setting up their account during installation. Expected result: Ubiquity alerts the user that they have typed an invalid username and explains the problem which characters are valid. What occurs: Uiquity is silent on the issue, stating "あなたの操作を待っている…"*, when the user thinks that they have in fact done all that they can. * "Waiting for your action", or some such. Additionally: In my case it was because I used my name as a username, which I naturally type with a capital "C". Surely if the only issue with my suggestion was that usernames do not contain capitals, in that case it should just accept my string but convert it all to lower case? Effect of this bug: I stared at this "frozen" state for about half an hour, clicking back and forth, emptying and refilling fields, etc. During the course of Google searching for this problem, I found at least one person who did not stumble upon the solution, stating that they "could not install" Ubuntu 10.10 due to this behaviour. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Maverick installer shows no information when typed username is invalid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/658068 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
