Got maverick up and running on my system with Nvidia restricted driver enabled. Had to downgrade Xorg and Nvidia-current to lucid and lock their versions using synaptic. Don't know if its reliable but the system is pretty stable without any visible performance hit. I hope the issue is resolved soon.
