Are you looking at the transmission process under system monitor processes tab? If so, i followed what you said you have done and I don't notice a problem. CPU percentage stays in a range of 0-5%. Gnome system monitor is actually using more than the transmission client. Are you using a Fresh 10.10 install or did you upgrade from 10.04?
