Seems to work. I checked alsamixer, and the headphones option is still
"grayed out."

I adjusted the volume for the front speakers in alsamixer, and lost
audio in both headphones and speakers. Although, after a second reboot,
the headphones were working again. (Still grayed out in alsamixer
though.) I can adjust volume from the sound menu, as well as within
applications and in the notification area without losing audio. Other
than that slight glitch when adjusting front speaker volume only, I
haven't had any trouble from your patch.
