My first generation iMac has 160 MB of RAM which may be on the narrow end of the scale. It also happens to have an 80 GB disc which on the other hand probably is on the larger end.
1. the live CD will not both into "live mode", you will see the splash screens jump by for a long time but then nothing happens. I have not tried all alternatives at the boot prompt, but I can not figure out why something labeled "powerpc64" would work so those alternatives has not been tested. 2. the alternate cd works much better. For some strange reason it will not get the ip-address by DHCP, if that means that networking is not working or if it is only something minor I do not know. Regardless if I chose Swedish (my native language) or English the installation runs smoth until it is time to boot from the hard drive. Either it is some partitioning problem regarded to open firmware, or something is not working as it should. Allthough I have used boot programs from a large set of hardware vendors since the early 1980s, I do not feel at home in the Apple version. Not that it is worse than anything else, but still it is appalling that a manufacturer with such a high self esteem regarding user friendliness is unable to come up with something where you at least can list the possible boot-devices. So if anybody, better suited to configure mac:s can tell me what to do I will test whatever is suggested to me; otherwise I would suggest that this is not working.
