Well, perhaps my issue is another altogether but the desktop I
experienced it on and had to restart X has fairly new hardware (at least
IMO).

It's not a huge deal or anything but it is frustrating to not have a
cursor when you try to use your computer. I also haven't reproduced it
on the desktop but I have seen it a few times on my netbook of which I
would also post lshw but I'm not sitting in front of it.
