I got a little but further. Recompiling digitemp without any optimization gives 
me output when running 
$ sudo ./digitemp_DS2490 -w

(it says 3.5.0, but I downloaded the 3.6.0 source code from www.digitemp.com)
Without the -O0-trick, this list is blank.


But when I try to initialize, nothing is found:
$ sudo ./digitemp_DS2490 -i
