I am no avahi expert so I could be wrong. I think avahi/zeroconf only uses the dns protocol, but won't use the glibc name resolution functions with link local addresses. So this use case won't affect the Vista/OS X like name resolution. The relevant changes in glibc 2.5 are address sorting related. I don't think it allows disabling AAAA queries in gai.conf >From glibc NEWS: * For Linux, the sorting of addresses returned by getaddrinfo now also handles rules 3, 4, and 7 from RFC 3484.
