To sum up, I had a long discussion with upstream about this, which starts at http://mailman.alsa-project.org/pipermail/alsa-devel/2010-August/031054.html Long story short - as we're in freeze now, my suggestion is that we remove the softvol for Natty regardless of what upstream decides to do.
