@Cyrus Harmon: I think all involved concur on 48kHz audio being a distinct problem in gstreamer0.10. Audio at 44kHz and lower, not a problem. I believe madbiologist is looking at this issue, when time given. This issue surfaced as a problem in Ubuntu 9.10.
