Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and help to improve
Ubuntu.

Your bug report shows that you had grub2 installed, which you
subsequently removed by installing grub1 but you did not configure
grub1.  Without allowing your bootloader to be configured, it is
impossible for the updated kernel to be added to the boot configuration.
You should either configure grub1 by saying 'yes' to this question, or
reinstall the recommended grub2 bootloader by running 'sudo apt-get
install grub-pc' from a terminal.
